What's #NGSchool?

#NGSchool (Next Generation School) is a platform to share the expertise in the field of Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis and general Bioinformatics. Our aim is to deepen and broaden knowledge and skills in Bioinformatics of all participants. Summer School in Bioinformatics & NGS Data Analysis, our flagship annual event, connects experts and early stage researchers from these fields, in order to exchange their expertise and learn one from another (see Alumni). In addition, starting from 2018, we started organising number of local events (read more about our history). All our courses and materials are in English.

Currently we're working on #NGSchool2019 that will focus on machine learning techniques and their applications in Bioinformatics & NGS Data Analysis and personalised medicine.

Areas of interest

We select topics of interest for each event:

In addition, we're organising number of local & satellite events.

You can find all resources from our courses in Materials section.

Social activities

We put a lot of effort to make #NGSchool not only useful, but also very social. Every year, we organise set of social events, including BBQ nights, movie & music nights, lectures in the pub, joggling & jam sessions, hiking and sightseeing. Definitely check photos from our previous events.

Can I join this project?

We believe in #OpenScience, so everyone is welcome to participate! People having no prior experience with Bioinformatics are welcome, but strong motivation is desired! You can read more about the ideal participant and selection criteria. Our community means everything to us, therefore our past contributors are warmly welcomed to all #NGSchool events as guest (read more)!

To stay up-to-date, we recommend to follow us on Facebook, Research Gate and/or Twitter. Contact us directly, if you wish to contribute as speaker, partner or sponsor (our sponsor packages).

How much does it cost?

The real cost of #NGSchool oscillates around €500-€800 per participant. We try to keep the registration fee as low as possible in order to accommodate especially participants from less developed countries and/or poorer regions. Every year, we do our bests to find external funding. In previous years, the registration fee covering accommodation and full boarding was up to €100. In addition, we try to provide travel grants to at least participants in the most difficult financial situation (read more about funding).
